SEATTLE (Oct. 13) - Kara Hamby netted a goal and an assist as No. 2-ranked Seattle Pacific University maintained its perfect record in a 3-0 Great Northwest Athletic Conference victory over Saint Martin's Saturday night at Interbay Stadium.
The Falcons are out to their best start in program history at 15-0, 9-0 in the GNAC. Saint Martin's dropped to 1-14, 0-9.
Hamby garnered her first goal of the campaign off a penalty kick at 71:11, and assisted on a Shannon Oakes strike just over three minutes later with a thru-ball from the top of the box.
Oakes pushed toward goal, cut back to beat a Saints defender, and slotted the ball to the left post past Saint Martin's keeper Breanna Klasen.
Claire Grubbs opened up match scoring in the 19th-minute when she headed Katie Taylor's cross from the right corner to the far post. Taylor had begun the sequence with a low corner-kick that bounced off a Saints defender and back out to the corner.
Just prior to intermission, SMU had a chance to equalize when Julianna Sackeyfio ripped a hard shot at keeper Maddie Dickinson from 20 yards. Dickinson batted the ball down and out to a Falcon defender for clearance for her only save of the game.
Seattle Pacific held a 20-2 shot advantage and earned 10 corner-kicks to Saint Martin's one. Klasen registered a dozen saves.
The Falcons are on the road for their next two matches beginning with a visit to Western Washington on Wednesday night. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:00.
